Jewelry as Bookmarks
Thanksgiving has barely passed, and already we find ourselves on the threshold of the next round of celebrations. Whether it’s Christmas, Hanukkah, or another holiday that lights up your season, it always seems to arrive in a blink. For me, this sense of momentum feels familiar—just as I get a handle on one wave, another rolls in, much like the ceaseless rhythm of the ocean. And honestly? I love it. The newness keeps life fresh. I’ve always been someone who craves variety, and perhaps that’s what has kept me so deeply engaged in this business over the years. There’s always something new to learn, uncover, or create.
I often wonder why I write about the things I do. Maybe it’s as much for me as it is for you—I'm still navigating so much of this myself. While my musings might seem only loosely connected to jewelry, they always circle back to what I call the three P’s: purpose, place, and passion. These principles guide my work and infuse each piece I create with deeper meaning.
Life, in many ways, resembles a diet. You can focus on cutting out the negative, relying on sheer willpower, or you can fill your days so abundantly with goodness—love, joy, and creativity—that negativity simply has no space to take root. For me, the latter path has been far more fulfilling. It’s a lesson I’ve carried with me since childhood: where we focus our gaze is where we inevitably end up. Just like learning to ride a bike or throw a ball, life follows the direction of our attention.
As we step into this holiday season, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on what brings you joy and where your true talents lie. Spend time nurturing those aspects of your life and setting your sights on where you want to go. And, of course, treat yourself and those you love to some jewelry—because, let’s be honest, jewelry makes us smile. Over time, the pieces in your collection become more than adornments; they transform into keepsakes, holding memories of the people and places that shaped your journey. They become bookmarks in the story of your life, marking chapters you can revisit again and again.
