Embracing Uniqueness
Sometimes, I get bored with myself, though it’s rare. I believe this happens to all of us. I’m not saying my life isn’t interesting; I think being unsettled is a part of the human condition. There are times when I feel like doing something spontaneous, going somewhere. But the truth is, those are the moments I need to be still the most. The moments I most want to distract myself are the ones where I can learn the most if I listen to my heart and head. It’s the hardest to listen and act with intention during these moments, but I truly believe that if we want to know and grow into our truest selves, it’s some of the most important work we can do. In these moments, we discover who we truly are, become aware of our purpose, place, and passion by listening to ourselves. The world throws so much at us every moment; we’re bombarded with sounds, words, and imagery of what we should be. It’s hard not to feel like what and who you are is enough. But let me say that I know you are enough. If you’ve gotten this far into reading this letter, it’s because you’re seeking understanding. I don’t think understanding is a destination; it’s something we achieve repeatedly on this journey of life. It slips out of view occasionally, and we must focus on it to regain it. This is how we come to consider ourselves enough. It’s in these moments that we learn who we are, and I hope that’s what we come to understand.
When I create, I think about all our differences. Almost all of our pieces are unique in the same way each of us is. Our newest carved stone rings are a fantastic example of the uniqueness of each piece we design and make. I hope you love them as much as I do.
